Some short films

While coming up with a concept for my own film, a few animators have really inspired me with their work in a variety of ways.

Insomnia by Islena Neira was created as part of a five day rally at EMCA (Ecole des Métiers du Cinéma d'Animation). The simple palette and drawing style makes this film very easy to take in, and pairs well with the minimalistic piano track. The sound is perhaps the most important element of this film as it drives the movement of the characters, as well as the pacing of the shots. The parts I find most interesting are the use of panels and how the movement is depicted between them, and the halftone texture that gives the film a specific style. This is a really good example of an effective film that was made in a short space of time.

Greenie Reenie by Andrew Onorato is one of my favourite recently found films for the world it builds in 4 minutes. From the surreal clashing colours to the level of detail in the environment seen in each shot, I am engaged for the entirety each time I watch it. I would like to inject some of this absurdity and fun into my work, and may use it to contrast more serious tones.

Also made in a very short amount of time, this film by Justine Thibault was created in 48 hours and uses a mix of digital and traditional mediums. I see this as a film about a moment, not necessarily a story. I really like the strong colours used and peaceful atmosphere, which is in part achieved by the music.
