The RSA Brief: 'Not Enough Time'

As part of this year's Royal Society of Arts Moving Pictures brief, I have chosen to animate Tiffany Dufu's 'Not Enough Time' clip on the daily pressures of women. I felt more interested in this over the 'Post-Truth' clip as I see a lot of parallels between Dufu's topic and my ongoing desire to normalise self care and mental illness. I feel that this clip matches my own message enough to fit well with my portfolio, as well as keep my interest.

My first step was to very loosely storyboard the audio, as this was the approach taken with my last animation set to speech. While this helped me come up with some initial imagery quickly, I feel that I need to get past the obvious symbols such as clocks and feminine coded objects.

The highest priority for how I intend to depict this clip is to not rely on stereotypes or obvious choices. If possible, I would like to make this as inclusive and universal as I can, which may be challenging with references to gyms, meetings, commutes - the picture painted by Dufu seems to be of a specific demographic. I will continue to sketch out ideas in order to work past this.
