As I am reaching a rut in the development for this story, I thought it was time to experiment with different mediums. Pen and ink have been versatile and effective for creating light and shadow very quickly and easily, but I also wanted to consider colour.
First I tried out watercolour, as this has a similar consistency to ink and so would feel consistent with that style. I found the textures interesting, however I'm aware of the difficulties I may have with water on paper from my RSA attempts. But this was a good and quick way to think about how my character may look in colour. I am still also trying to think about how an 'alternate dimension' version of my character might look, and so have tried out both watercolour and chalk for an ethereal effect.
While playing with tracing paper to give the alternate dimension character some transparency, I also decided to try out a walk cycle. I have not yet animated my character, and at this point in the unit it feels like I should be trying that out. The above video is the result - I was more concerned with keeping the design consistent in each frame than producing an in depth and technically correct walk cycle, however I am fairly pleased with the result. Colouring digitally was also fun, but took maybe too long to animate with.
From here, I hope to continue animating and will hopefully arrive at a fully fleshed out story soon.
